What is a China work visa?

All foreigners who intend to work in China will need a work visa or Z visa. This visa is issued as a single entry with a duration of stay of 000 (means to be determined).  Within 90 days after the visa is issued, visa holders must enter China. They must then be registered at the local public security bureau within 30 days of arrival to obtain a residence permit. In this way, the residence permit will replace the work visa.

The age limit defined for Z visa applicants is 18 to 60 years. But this requirement is flexible. So if you are not in the range of age and can find an appropriate employer, you can still get approval.


What are China Work Visa Requirements?

  • A valid visa: The visa must be valid for at least 12 months and have two blank pages.
  • China work visa application form: You must first fill out the form on your computer and then print and sign it. The handwritten form is not acceptable. All blanks must be filled out. If a section doesn’t apply, please write “None” or “N/A’.  Pages should be printed on single-sided pages. Do not use a staple to attach the papers. It is enough to use a paper clip.
  • A photo: The dimensions of the photo should be 33 * 48 mm, and it should be on a white background. Photo quality must be acceptable and be taken within the last six months.
  • Work permit: Applicants for a work visa must submit one of the following documents. The employer obtains these documents;
    • Foreigners Work Permit
    • Registration Certificate
    • An approval document for commercial performances
    • Invitation Letter to Foreigners for Offshore Petroleum Operations
  • Other supporting documents: In some cases, more documents such as medical form or criminal history may be required. Note that in order to obtain a Temporary Residence Permit in China, you will need to have a Physical Examination Record.

How to apply for China work visa?

You must submit your documents to the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in person. A friend, family member, as well as a travel agency, can send documents on behalf of you. Mailed applications are rejected. No appointment required.  You can also apply for a work visa through the China Visa Application Centers. Some of these centers accept mailed applications.
