According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taiwanese citizens can still apply for Russian visas. The MOFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) stated on April 6th that the country of Taiwan is not one of the “unfriendly nations” targeted by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visa and travel restrictions.
Taiwan is unaffected by visa restrictions
Putin signed an executive order on April 4th ordering the suspension of Russia’s simplified visa issuing system with some EU nations, along with
Switzerland | Iceland | Norway | Denmark |
The executive order also directed Russia’s foreign ministry and other agencies to explore imposing personal entrance restrictions on “foreign nationals and stateless individuals who commit hostile acts against Russia, its residents, or its legal organizations.”
Per a news statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, specific media sources incorrectly claimed that Taiwan is also subject to Russian visa restrictions. However, according to the government, this recent development has had no impact on citizens.
According to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taiwanese citizens have been able to apply for Russian visas since August 24th, 2021. MOFA also said it hadn’t heard from Taiwanese nationals overseas that their applications had been refused for Russian visas.
According to MOFA, the ministry would keep a close eye on the newest Russian visa information, assess the implications for Taiwan, and take appropriate actions in due time.
