The Chinese employer applies for a China Work Permit Notice

SAFEA (The State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs is the responsible center for issuing a work notice. The Chinese employer has to apply to the SAFEA to get the work permit notice.

He/she has to submit these documents as well;

  1. A business license and organization code certificate;
  2. The registration form;
  3. ID information of the employer/agent who is responsible for the registration;
  4. Industry license documents.

This list of documents is needed for the employee: 

  1. Foreigner’s Work Permit application form;
  2. Passport;
  3. ID photo;
  4. Verification of past employment;
  5. Verification of education or verification of professional qualification;
  6. Copy of job contract or appointment letter;
  7. Criminal record certificate;
  8. Physical examination record; and
  9. Information of accompanying members.

The loan officer must send the above list of documents to the employee so he/she can apply for a work permit notice.

The loan officer applies for a work visa

After the work permit notice is issued, the loan officer must apply for a work visa.

These are some of the documents you have to submit to the Chinese embassy/consulate to get the work visa;

Your Passport: It must be valid for at least 12 months and have two blank pages.

A photo:  The photo’s dimensions should be 33X48 mm, and it should be on a white background.

Its quality must be acceptable and be taken within the last 3 months.

Work notice: You must submit one of these documents received from your employer: Foreigners Work Permit, Registration Certificate, An approval document for commercial performances

Clean record certificate: You must get it from the related authorities in your home country.

Note: this is a general list of documents, and the Chinese embassy could ask for further documents. You’d better contact them to know if they ask for other documents or not.

At this stage of your application, you have to schedule an appointment with the Chinese embassy or consulate in your home country responsible for visa processing o to submit the documents. You can do it online through the AVAS website.

Also, you can schedule a meeting while gathering the document to save up time. 

You must visit the embassy on the arranged date to submit the documents. Get there in person and submit the documents to them. You might have to submit your biometrics if the embassy asks. Follow their instructions and complete every part with the embassy.

Whether you have to submit the documents in person or someone else can submit them on your behalf is with the embassy. Ask the embassy how they receive the application. You might have to submit your application through an agency.

There is also a fee with the work visa issuance that you must pay. It’s up to your nationality and the embassy services. You must either pay the fee before submitting the documents or after it. The embassy will guide you on it. Whatever the way is, you have to pay the fees for visa processing. There is no visa processing without paying the application fee.

It takes time until the embassy works on your application to issue the visa. You must submit every piece of the document according to the instructions.

When your visa is ready, the embassy informs you to get the visa label on your passport.

Land in China and register with the police

After you get the visa label, you can immigrate to China as a loan officer. But there are some procedures you have to complete in the country. The first one is to register at the local public security bureau within 24 hours of your arrival. If you’re going to stay with Chinese residents or live with them, these documents are needed to submit to the local public security bureau:

  1. The original passport, not a photocopy;
  2. The housing contract;
  3. A copy of the landlord’s ID and phone number.

The police may call the landlord to ensure you are truly living in the apartment. Moreover, they may even ask the landlord to show up with the employee. So you should submit true information about your stay.

Take the medical test and check-up

After you register your address with the local security bureau, you must take a medical test in China. You’d better do it as soon as possible to avoid any trouble. Chinese authorities don’t accept an English version of a medical report from other countries.

So you have to translate it into Chinese.

If you can translate the certificate in China and it’s a complete medical test, you might not need to take a new medical test in China. It’s possible the authorities accept it.

But if you can’t, you must take the new medical test. 

You have to gather and bring these documents to your medical test meeting:

  1. An original medical checkup from your country (if it is partially completed)
  2. Cash to pay for your medical test.
  3. One ID Photo. It must meet these requirements:
    • Taken within the last 6 months, on a white background, printed on high-quality paper;
    • 48mm by 33mm wide, not 2 by 2 inches, which is usually used outside of China;
    • Full frontal view of the head, not smiling, face fully visible;
    • There cannot be any sign of tape or staples on it.

The loan officer applies for a work permit from the officials

After passing the medical checkup, you must apply for a work permit. Remember that a work permit is different from a residence permit. They both are different than a work permit notice that the employer applies at the beginning of your application. You have to follow the order of application I explained here.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security is responsible for this process. You have to gather and submit these documents to them;

  1. The actual passport;
  2. An ID photo: It must be the same as for the medical checkup.
  3. The police housing registration form you got from the previous stage.
  4. Medical report verification;
  5. Some documents from the company.

The Chinese company helps you with these documents.

The processing time is typically 10 business days to get the work permit. The Chinese authorities will inform you when it’s ready.

The loan officer applies for a Residence permit

The last stage to complete is to apply and get a residence permit to legalize your stay in China. A foreign employee cannot stay in China long-term without a resident permit. So you must get it. You have to go in person to the local Exit-Entry Administration Bureau. And You must bring this list of documents:

  1. The actual passport;
  2. Police housing registration form;
  3. Resident permit application forms;
  4. ID photo;
  5. Original work certificate;
  6. Some documents for the company.

The processing time for the resident permit to be issued will be 7 business days. The Exit-Entry Administration Bureau will hold your passport during this period, and you cannot have it. But, they will give you a receipt or paper that you can use as a replacement passport during this time until you get your residence permit.

When you get your residence permit, you are a resident of China. The long and tedious process ends here. You are free to travel around China and can come and go from China as often as you wish. You don’t need any extra paperwork.

According to Salary Expert, the average salary of a loan officer in China is about ¥194,150 per year. You can expect to earn about ¥6,737 bonus as well. A person at the entry-level with 1-3 years of experience can expect to earn about ¥141,545, but a loan officer with +8 years of work experience can earn about ¥241,566 per year.

According to Indeed, the average salary of a loan officer in China is about $283,958 per year.
