A caravan company that assisted in the movement of Ukrainians to the United Kingdom is demanding a “simpler” immigration process, claiming that they could have transported more migrants.
Preston Caravans and Motorhomes carried four cars with humanitarian assistance to the Poland borders before returning with nine passengers despite having 36 spots.
“You seem like you’ve failed,” said Charlotte Campbell, the firm’s manager.
According to a government spokeswoman, they are “simplifying forms and increasing staff.”
Ms. Campbell stated that they chose to assist Ukrainians after seeing media footage of the Russian attack.
“We have the cars, the staff, and the time, and I believe we should act instead of debating about it all day at work.”
She described her arrival in Medyka, Poland, as “difficult,” adding, “It’s as if Chorley unexpectedly had two million additional people to tend for who had nowhere to go.”
“We were unable to bring as many visa applicants as we would have liked, or there were delays or other problems, so we had to say, “I wish I could.”
“You seem like you’ve not succeeded, particularly when the individuals we have brought back have been so thankful, wonderful, and thrilled to see their sponsors,” Ms. Campbell remarked.
“You just felt, if I could have just accomplished this for everyone, it would have taken the pain off of feeling that this is such a huge issue.”
Colin Goulding, who drove a family home in a van, described the encounter as “traumatizing” after witnessing the war’s devastation.
“They’re not like real characters on the TV, but since they get in the vehicle with you for four days… You can’t stop feeling sorry for them while you speak.
“I purchased the little girl a bag of potato chips, and the look on her face was like winning the lotto.”
Currently residing in London with her parent and a child, Olga Melnyk characterized the hardship of abandoning Kyiv and her male relatives, who are compelled to join the resistance, as “stressful.”
“I had no prior experience traveling with a little infant.”
“Now we feel wonderful, protected, and entirely different from how it was in the previous few months.”
She stated that she knew several individuals who were still waiting for a visa to enter the United Kingdom.
Poland Return
Priti Patel, the UK’s Home Secretary, has already talked apologetically about the “frustrating” visa delays that have stopped hundreds of Ukrainian refugees from entering the country.
On Thursday, a ministry official stated that over 56,000 visas were granted in the previous five weeks.
“We will continue to process visas as soon as feasible. In addition, the Home Office has made adjustments to streamline the visa procedure, such as streamlining paperwork and increasing staffing.”
He went on to say that the UK Visas and Immigration helpdesk could give information as well as escalate complaints.
Ms. Campbell stated that she and her colleagues want to return to Poland to transport additional refugees to the UK, stating, “If it were my friends, I would want somebody to help them, and they need it.”
