The online diplomatic visa in India was first introduced in February 2015. Every diplomat seeking to acquire an official/diplomatic visa must submit their application online. So, the physical way of submitting an application form is no longer approved.

When the visa is granted, you will be notified via SMS or email. Then you can collect your visa by visiting the Consular personally.
Eligibility Criteria for India diplomatic visa
Here are the eligibility criteria you should be aware of:
- In addition, you should have a Diplomatic/Official passport of your country of origin.
- Foreign nationals holding their Diplomatic/Official passports and who are already residing in India are eligible to apply for Diplomatic/Official visas through the official online portal.
- An ordinary passport holder is not eligible to apply for a diplomatic visa.
Required Documents for an India diplomatic visa
These are the documents you should provide for an India diplomatic visa:
- The passport should be valid for at least six months from the application date, including two blank pages for official purposes. Two photos on a white or light background, recently taken, of the size 3.5 × 3.5 cm
- A copy of the first and last page of the passport containing name, nationality, address, date of birth, expiry date, etc
- An invitation letter from India.
- A printed copy of the visa application
- Proof of residential address.
You should submit your diplomatic passport to the Ministry of External Affairs and the CPV division after getting an information receipt from the CPV division. You will be notified via e-mail or SMS.

This visa usually takes 4 or 5 working days to be processed. However, it may vary depending on your country. If there is no error in your application form, your visa will be issued within this period. You will be notified either by e-mail or SMS if the administrative process delays.
