What are the J2 U.S. Visa Interview Questions for Immigrants in 2022?

A J2 visa is a non-immigrant visa provided to family members of J1 visa holders. J2 visa owners are subject to the same conditions as J1 visa holders. The J2 visa cannot be used to bring family members into the United States because different sponsors sponsor J1 visa holders differently.

How to Apply for a J2 U.S. Visa?

You may be eligible to stay in the U.S. with a J-1 visa holder if you are his or her spouse or child (under 21 years of age). To get this visa, you need to go through the following steps.

Make a J-2 Visa Appointment

If you apply for your j2 visa alongside a J-1 legal immigrant, you may arrange your visa appointments simultaneously. If you apply for your visa independently of the J-1 legal immigrant, you must make your appointment with the U.S. embassy. Scheduling a meeting and application procedures differ depending on the U.S. embassy.

Note:

  • Canadian nationals are exempt from embassy visits and do not require a J-2 Visa to enter the United States. HOWEVER, your DS-2019 form and evidence of SEVIS payment must be shown at the border.
  • Wait periods are more significant throughout various seasons, and you may not be able to secure an appointment before your intended start date.

Sign your J-2 DS-2019 Form

An application for a visa or a J-2 visa is not included in a DS-2019. However, it confirms your eligibility and allows you to file for a J-2 Visa. Please read the DS-2019 form on both sides and ensure all information is correct (i.e., your name, dates, etc.). Mistakes on this form may result in the refusal of a visa.

Sign your name below page one if you agree to the terms and conditions outlined on page two. Don’t forget to read the instructions on the back of the form and follow them accordingly. Your signature indicates your explicit agreement with the program’s conditions.

You must obey the laws of the federal, state, and municipal governments of the United States. Maintain the integrity of your DS-2019 form all through the visa procedure and your time in the United States.

Complete your Visa application and Gather the Requirements

Complete the visa application steps. Fill out any relevant application forms and acquire any required additional documents. For example:

  • Evidence of ties to home country
  • Evidence of sufficient financial assets
  • Photos

You will require your DS-2019 and SEVIS number. Your SEVIS number is different from the J-1 visa owner’s SEVIS number. Therefore, before sending your complete application packet to the embassy, make duplicates of it.

Note: While J-1 legal immigrants must pay a SEVIS fee, J-2 visa owners are exempt. However, as a J-2 Visa candidate, you must still provide evidence of payment by producing a copy of the SEVIS payment receipt. Please remember that additional costs may be necessary; clarify the precise amounts with your embassy.

Attend the Interview for your J-2 visa at your U.S. Embassy

Present the following documents to the embassy:

  • Your completed and signed DS-2019 form
  • Your passport
  • The embassy will require all J-2 Visa paperwork.
  • Any supporting papers or information that your embassy requires.

Receive your J-2 Visa

The officials will stamp your passport with a visa sticker from the embassy or consulate and your DS-2019 form if you are granted a J-2 Visa. Frequently, you can reapply if you do not have the information you need during an initial application.
