The UK increases the number of seasonal work visa 

The UK government has announced that they want to extend a temporary visa scheme for foreign seasonal workers. The government wants to extend the visa until the end of 2024. This is while the quota will decrease from 2023.

The UK government is to provide seasonal work visa to 30.000 workers to work in the country and help with picking up flowers, vegetables, and fruits.

The agriculture sector needs to improve the working and income condition for the seasonal workers. The government is changing the rules, so the employers have to pay a “minimum salary” to seasonal workers.

The extension of the number of workers is to respond to the industry’s need for seasonal workers.

The UK is dependent on migrant workers in the agriculture sector that is one of the low-paid ones. The non-Eu workers are the ones who will work in this field mainly.

However, the decision to reduce the number of workers from 2023 has been criticized by some and might be subject to change if needed.
