  • must have a valid passport issued from the government of the country you live in.

How to complete a Canada eTA Application?

You must have the features and requirements to apply for the eTA. The application process is easy and fast. You will need these documents:

  • A legal passport from one of the mentioned countries.
  • A valid e-mail address.
  • A prepaid card, credit card, debit issued by:
    • Visa, MasterCard, American Express.
    • Union Pay.
    • JCB Card.
    • Interac.

Start the eTA – Electronic Travel Authorization application

If you have the mentioned documents, you can start the application process from the Canadian government website. It is the only way you can apply for an eTA. If someone has advised another website, they may be trying to deceive you. Don’t follow it.

When you click on the link, you should put the required information on the fields:

  • You are applying for some else or yourself.
  • If you apply for someone else, put your personal information.
  • The travel document details with which you are applying for the eTA:
  • The country issues it.
  • The passport number.
  • Date of expiry and issued date.
  • Other personal information, such as:
      • Your first and last name
      • Gender
      • Birthdate
      • Your nationality
      • Marital status
  • Details of if you have ever had a visa or any previous visits in Canada.
  • Employment documents
  • Contact information (e-mail address);
  • Residential address;
  • Travel information like:
      • Dates of travel to Canada;
      • Flight number (if you have reserved your travel);
  • Background questions such as:
      • Previous applications for a visa in Canada that got refused;
      • Medical history;
      • Criminal history;

You should make sure that you put the right information and passport number in. You can not board a flight if you put the wrong details about your travel document. This would be the case even if your eTA got approved.

What Are the eTA – Electronic Travel Authorization Fees?

When you submit the required information with the application, the site takes you to a page to make your eTA payment. Each eTA costs CA$7.

You must pay the fee before you start the application. If you don’t pay the fee, the Embassy Will not process the application.

When you pay the fee, the Embassy sends you a confirmation email that the processing has started.

The eTA – Electronic Travel Authorization Processing Time

The eTA is among the fastest documents to get. So, the time to process is short. Most of the submitted eTA applications get processed in a few minutes.

Then you get an email that approves your eTA.

Yet, in some cases, the eTA processing may take a few days. But it will not take more than one week.

While traveling to Canada, you just need your passport. There is no need for other documents. The officials will scan your passport to see if the eTA got approved or not.
This is why it’s essential to have the correct passport information on the eTA application. You can not travel to Canada in case the eTA and your passport details do not match.

How Long is the Canada eTA valid for?

When you get the eTA, you can travel and stay in Canada for up to six months or less. Yet, the eTA is valid for up to five years or until your passport expires. You can travel to Canada as many times as you want in this time period. But you can not stay for more than 6 months.

When you get a new passport, you should apply for a new eTA. The eTA can not be transferred from one passport to the next.

Can You Bring Your Family With Yourself to Canada With an eTA?

You can not use eTA for multiple people. The eTA will get attached to your passport. So, each person should have his own eTA.

Parents can apply for the eTA of their children. Your spouse must apply for his/her own eTA. The application fee is the same as the application process.
