The Pharmacy Board Exam.

The next requirement is that you have to pass the Korean Pharmacy Board Exam to immigrate to South Korea as a pharmacist. You need to prepare for this exam, and get a passing score.  It is held once a year in South Korea.

Being mentally healthy. 

You must be mentally healthy to immigrate to South Korea as a pharmacist. If you suffer from a mental issue, you can not immigrate to South Korea as a pharmacist. You might have to take tests to prove you are mentally healthy. 

Also, you must not have been addicted to a drug or harmful substances. If so, you become ineligible. 

Have a clean record certificate. 

If you have been convicted of a crime, been in jail, filed for bankruptcy, or been legally declared incompetent or of limited competency, you are not eligible. You must submit a clean record certificate to prove you have not been involved in a crime. Also, you need to submit your license so that you can work as a pharmacist in your home country. 

Get a Korea work visa.

You can study a pharmacy course in South Korea to immigrate to South Korea as a pharmacist. This is a guaranteed way as all of the Korean universities are eligible, and you can take the Pharmacy Board Exam. Follow this procedure to study for a pharmacy degree in South Korea. 

Find a Korean university with a Pharmacy course, get admission.

 Visit the university’s website and determine the requirements. This is a sample list of the requirements: 

  • Transcripts. 
  • Translation of all documents. 
  • Recommendation letter from previous teachers. 
  • Latest educational degree (At least high school)
  • Proof of language proficiency 
  • Entrance exam. 
  • Etc. 

Apply to the university and wait for the result. After the university agrees to grant admission, they send you an admission letter and Certificate of Admission or Confirmation of Visa Issuance to you. Now you can apply for a Korea student visa. 

Apply for a Korean student visa. 

After you receive the admission letter and the Certificate of Admission or Confirmation of Visa Issuance, you can apply for a Korea student visa. You need the certificate to apply for a visa, and it’s the university’s responsibility to apply and receive the certificate and send it to you. 

 You need to gather the list of supporting documents. This is a sample list of the documents you have to gather; 

  1. the Application form.
  2. Your Passport and one copy of the passport ID page.

It is the page with your photo. 

  1. A Passport sized photo 3.5 cm×4.5cm with white background. 

It must be taken within the past 6 months. 

  1. The Certificate of Admission issued by the International Education Team at Korea University.

  1. The Application fee is 60-90 USD. 

It is up to the visa type and your nationality. 

  1. The ID card. Your ID in the residing country. 
  2. The Certificate of KU Business Registration. 

It is needed for KU International Education Team applicants.  

  1. Invitation Letter from (the National Institute for International Education of Korea). 

If you have a scholarship or funds from a Korean university. 

  1. The Certificate of Completion for Korean language training. 

It is when the course is in Korean, and you have to prove your language proficiency. 

  1. The TB test Certificate if you are from the 19 countries that need a test entering South Korea. You can find the list of them in the Visa Library article. 
  2. The additional requirements buy your nationality.  

Twenty-one countries need to submit further documents.  You can find the list of these countries in the Visa Library.  If you’re on this list, the Korean embassy asks for further documents.  

You can expect a longer processing time for these countries as well.  So apply as early as possible. 

  1. The Final Academic Credential. 

Apostille / Confirmation from the Korean embassy or consulate located in the country where the applicant’s final education was complete 

For Chinese nationals, Documents from the ‘China Credentials Verification is needed. 

  1. The proof of paid tuition. 
  2. The bank statement for 20.000 USD to cover your expenses. You also need to have enough to cover your tuition. The available fund must be enough to cover your expenses for one year. If you have a scholarship, submit the proof. 
  3. A copy of your educational certificates. 
  4. A clean record certificate from the Police in your home country. 

The above is a sample list of the documents, and you might have to submit further documents. 

After you are done gathering the document, you need to schedule a meeting with the Korean embassy/consulate in your home country. You have to visit them in person and bring the documents. Then answer their questions regarding the purpose of your visit. It’s the interview stage and paying the fees for visa processing. Ask the embassy how much it costs you and how you have to pay it. 

After you are done with the embassy, wait for processing. When your visa is ready, the embassy informs you to pick it up. 

You need to complete your studies, get your degree, and respect the national law in the meantime. 

Pass the Pharmacy Board Exam

After you get your degree, you need to pass the Pharmacy Board Exam. You will have to pass it to become a licensed pharmacist in Korea. As you got your degree, you are qualified to take the exam. 

While you are studying in Korea, try to find out information about the exam and how to prepare yourself for it. 

Get a Korea work permit. 

After you pass the Pharmacy Board Exam, you must get a work permit to work in Korea as a foreign person. 

You need a job offer from a Korean employer to apply for a work permit. The employer can apply for a work permit, and you, as the pharmacist, can not apply for a work permit.  The employer applies to the Ministry of Justice, and they issue the Certificate of Confirmation of Visa Issuance. Now you can apply for a work visa. 

If you are outside of Korea, you need a work visa to enter the country. So you have to apply to the Lorean embassy/consulate in your home country. But if you are inside Korea at the time of application, you can change your status to a work permit. Visit the local immigration officials to know the procedures.

Your salary as a pharmacist in Korea is up to various factors. One of the determining factors is your work experience; the more, the higher your salary. 

According to Salary Expert, a pharmacist with 1-3 years of work experience earns about ₩45,229,521, while one with +8 years of work experience earns about ₩83,844,977.

According to Salary Explorer, the average salary is about 4,860,000 KRW per month, while the lowest salary is about 2,520,000 KRW the highest is about 7,430,000 KRW. 

Can I immigrate to South Korea as a pharmacist?

Yes, you can immigrate to South Korea as a pharmacist if you have studied abroad. But you must have studied in one of the approved universities and pass the national Pharmacy Board Exam.     I am a registered and qualified Pharmacist. I am a Lesotho national, having obtained my Pharmacy Honours degree at the University of Lesotho. I am aware of the current list of approved universities but I am quite confident that I can find the grace to work in South Korea.
