ETDs are only allowed to enter, pass and leave Russia by land if they have a valid Russian visa. Contact the closest Russian consulate or embassy other than the Russian migration office to check whether a visa can be given or not. You should likewise check with the Russian government office, department, or movement office for the necessary ETD legitimacy period. Visa-free ETDs are only allowed for airport transfers. You must check with your travel agent or airline to see if the transit area is available on the planned route at the airport.

Immigration card

Every time you arrive in Russia, you need to sign an immigration card. This will be handed to you at the passport review. The card consists of two identical parts. The removed part will be stored at the immigration office.

Departures may be delayed in Russia, so other parts should be kept safe. Hotels, hostels, or other reception agencies will not accept guests without an immigration card.

Travel between Russia and Belarus


Some citizens flying from Russia to Belarus are subject to immigration control. If your arrival/departure flight to Belarus is via Russia, contact the nearest Russian embassy or consulate to see if you need a diesel visa.


There is no legal basis for foreigners (including British nationals) between Russia and Belarus. If you wish to drive in Russia, you will need to take different routes via other countries.


If you plan to travel by train between the two countries, contact the railway operator or a tour if you book a room to find your advice. You should also think about contacting the nearest embassy or the consulate to get the latest situations for railway tourists.


Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, limiting temporary tourism at the Russian country border, including Belarus, will be on-site from March 30. The duration of these things is still unknown.
